Blog Post 9

In this weeks blog post we had to read a teachers reflection of their first year as an elementary teacher. This teachers name is Mr. McClung and he was teaching in Noel, Missouri. He has really interesting points about improving your teaching methods. One of the more important topics he stresses is Communication in the work place so there is not any teacher conflicts, its always easier to work in a comfortable environment with no hostility. Another topic he touches on is not expecting too much from your students. Having high expectations for your students is a good thing but if they do not reach these expectations pick them up and help them do better next time. Something that he said that really caught my eye was no matter how much you plan there is no such thin as a perfect lesson. You need to be able to adapt in the middle of the lesson and work with your students to better help them understand the lecture.

  1. Not only can you learn, you must. Forever! Take a look at his After Year 2 Reflection. And, as you can see from the readings this week, Mr. McClung is even a better teacher in Year 3.
